In 2014, I was awarded an artist commission to make a book about the erection of Tadao Ando’s first New York City building. Located at 152 Elizabeth Street, the building’s construction required the demolition of an existing parking garage—an aging structure that felt steeped in a distinctly New York pathos. The funding for the project was cut before the construction began, leaving me with just these images of the demolition.
